Sunny dog is Jon's family dog. She has lived a long full life and we have all made some fun memories with her. She welcomed me to the Carroll family with a drive-by lick in 1998. She knew she couldn't get away with just sitting next to me and giving me a lick, so she did it in passing. Smart dog.

Here she is in 1998 licking out a Jamba Juice cup. Now she's 17 years old, which is about 119 in human years. Old age has brought severe hip problems, poor eyesight, loss of hearing, and overall poor health.

Jon with PC (Phat Cat) and Sunny in 1998.

With Sunny getting so old and suffering so much, it was time to bid this sweet four-legged friend goodbye.

It was pretty emotional saying goodbye to a long time friend. The kids have known Sunny all there lives, and Shaylin remembers Sunny from her younger years and how she loved to play fetch. It helped us all to think that maybe Candace was waiting for Sunny with a ball ready to play fetch once again.

Zachary didn't get a chance to say goodbye because he was at scout camp and the decision to put Sunny down came quickly today. He handled the news better than the girls, probably because Sunny was already gone when he got home and for the girls they knew it was coming and had to say goodbye.

Sunny enjoyed a big bowl of ice cream surrounded by long time friends.

So long Sunny dog. You will be missed, but we know you aren't suffering anymore and that brings us all peace of mind.

That really had me tearing up. I know there is a doggie heaven. If not, I would just refuse to go!!
