Egg Drop

The kids have an annual egg drop at school that they can choose to participate in. This year both Shaylin and Zachary entered the competition and took similar approaches to creating their container. Because of the record amounts of rain we've been experiencing, they had to do the egg drop indoors off of a lift, rather than off of the gym roof outside where they usually do it.

First up was Shaylin's box. Here is Mr. Rosenthal getting ready to drop it and Shaylin's at the bottom waiting. After the container is dropped, the kids have to open their package and retrieve the egg with their hand whether it's broken or whole.












Shaylin was relieved to find her egg whole. Here's her design. She used elastic, part of an egg carton, duct tape, and a nice strong-shelled chicken egg from home. Way to go Shaylin!
Up next is Zachary's box. Here he is waiting for it to drop and then opening up the box while all the kids wait in anticipation.












Another successful egg drop. I think Zachary felt like a superstar as he held his egg up for everyone to see. It was so cute to hear all the kids cheer when someone would retrieve an unbroken egg.
The other part of the competition is trying to not only keep your egg from breaking, but having the lightest container. Zachary got 2nd place in his grade and his "girlfriend" Alahna got 3rd place. Shaylin's container was about 50 grams heavier than the 3rd place winner in her grade. She'll try for a smaller box next year. Great job kids! We're glad you like to participate in these type of things.


Ethan was the crowd pleaser during the egg drop. He would wander in and out of rows visiting his siblings sitting with their classes, clapping along the way. Everyone loved watching a baby toddle around and Ethan ate up all the attention.
