Happy Birthday Hailey!Besides an energetic personality and a beautiful smile, Hailey is sporting a black eye for her 6th birthday. This is actually a 2 week old black eye from rough-housing. It's more in the greenish/yellowish stage.
She grew up way too fast from being this little!
7 lb. 15 oz. and 20 1/4" long
She was known in the hospital as the "Clairol Baby" because she was born with these awesome blond highlights in this full head of dark hair. The nurses would bring other nurses into our room just to show them her cool hair.
This picture isn't showing the real contrast that was in her hair, but it gives you a general idea.We blinked and she turned 1.
G'ma & G'pa Carroll got her this little BYU cheerleader outfit.
We blinked a few more times and wammo! She's suddenly 6 and starting school soon.
Where has the time gone?
Shaylin and Hailey had fun decorating Hailey's birthday cake. Hope all your wishes come true!
Here are some funny little things about Hailey:
She loves to watch Cash Cab (random, I know) and when we're driving she'll make it a game and be the host of our very own family cash cab. Her questions are very entertaining.
~*~She is very patriotic and has become the flag patrol for making sure everyone in the family puts their hand over their heart whenever we pass a flag, no matter how big or small. She does this so much that Zachary has learned to keep his eyes down and say, "if I don't see it then I don't have to put my hand on my heart Hailey!"
~*~She was able to sleep in a water bed for the first time this summer. A little before bedtime she asked me, "so, do I wear my swimsuit to bed and just climb in?" She was very serious and thought it was like a hot tub that you literally get into to sleep.
~*~She was extremely worried about a friend of ours who is getting married soon. We were a little confused, but she just couldn't figure out how they were going to live by themselves and have jobs and buy their own food. We finally realized that this friend has the same name as our neighbor's cat. She thought the cat was getting married for some reason.
~*~When I took her in for her Kindergarten assessment she was pleasantly surprised at how easily she answered the questions. Basically all they test for is letter recognition of capital and lowercase letters, numbers 1-20, and shapes. (Really? Is this all we expect from our starting Kinders now? She learned these things in preschool over the last 3 years and is now reading and doing math facts. I'm not tooting her horn, I'm just saying that I don't think the expectation level for this age is where it should be.) Anywho, on the way home from the assessment I was talking to her about when she was in school if the assignments didn't take her very long to do, or was really easy for her that she could be a helper to some of the other kids who needed help. She nodded her head very thoughtfully and said, "yes, like helping them say the alphabet backwards." Little does she know that most adults can't even say the alphabet backwards as quickly as she can. Silly girl.
~*~She loves to use words like declare, hypothesis, proclaim, play structure, like (yes, like a valley girl), responsibility, actually, oh my goodness (said with much drama), interesting, & holy cow!
~*~She loves to sing anything and everything! In fact, it's like pulling teeth to get her to just read a book and not sing the book. Have you ever heard "If you Give A Mouse a Cookie" sung? Quite entertaining indeed!
~*~This girl does keep us laughing. She has so much enthusiasm and excitement for life. She has a very infectious personality that oozes with creativity. We affectionately call her the "hairy one" because she can be a little over the top sometimes and hard to reason with when she gets something in her mind. We know that kind of determination and stubbornness will do well for her if channeled in the right direction. We love having her as part of our family and can't imagine life any other way.
We love you Hailey!

I fondly remember Hailey's highlights, which were the talk of the night at the infamous girls' night when I joined the group! Remember that? :) Those were the days....
