Science Fair Projects

Hailey's Science Fair Project was "Sprout It Out."

She chose 12 different vegetable seeds to plant

and then charted which ones "sprouted up" first. Her Hypothesis:
Beans would sprout first at 10 days
Corn at 12 days
Peppers at 16 days.

The Results:
Lettuce sprouted first at 3 days
Peas were next at 5 days
Corn came in third place at 8 days.

She learned that seeds don't take as
long to sprout up as she thought.

Zachary's Science Fair Project was launching
different sized balloons filled to different capacities.

The church parking lot provided a perfect launching area where we could see where the balloons landed and mark them and then measure the distance they each flew. It also made for easy clean up after we were done. It's a lot easier to spot balloon remnants on pavement rather than in the grass. =)The kids were just launching random balloons in this picture. For Zachary's actual experiment Jon and I were the "posts" and the girls marked where the balloons landed and Zachary was the launcher. His Hypothesis was that the biggest lightest water balloon would launch the farthest (smallest blue balloon in the picture).

Here are his launching results.

The smallest Orange balloon was the winner.
The largest Blue balloon splatted pretty much
in front of us getting us a little wet.

I think Zachary enjoyed testing his hypothesis,
even if it wasn't correct.
