Guess Who's 1 Now?

Ethan James turned 1 year old today!

This little man has done some growing this past year. He truly loves his little "oo oo" monkey. He doesn't say many things yet besides "da da" and "wu wu" (our dog). He does make some funny sounds though, like a monkey sound, a low growl, and a high squawk (kind of like a bird). You'd think this little guy was raised in a zoo. Oh wait, that's pretty much our house. =)

He is such a happy little guy and has just started clapping his hands together. When he crawls he reminds us of a wind-up toy because he'll circle around in one spot on the floor making himself dizzy and then look up and laugh. He's taken 2-3 steps here and there, but doesn't trust himself enough yet to take off walking on his own.

We're still struggling with his eating issues, but we have made some progress. He is now able to have food touch his tongue without throwing up. He still gags, but is learning to work past that. This week I had decided to give up on the fight to get foods in him because he has no interest and has started clenching his teeth when he sees the spoon or bottle. However, he totally surprised us all today first of all with his enthusiasm in seeing his cake, and then by not only sticking his fingers in his cake (2 weeks ago he wouldn't even put his fingers in food), but tasting it, and enjoying it without gagging. Wahoo!!!

He loved the candle in his little cake, but kept trying to grab at it. We had to hold his hands back and big brother helped him blow out his candle.

Present time was so entertaining. He seemed to make his "oo oo" face with each present. We spent $1.00 on a Mylar Balloon for him to play with. Everything else was pulled out of the baby toy box that we had stored away from when the older children were little. I added batteries back into some of the toys to give them new life for Ethan. It was a toss up whether Ethan or the older kids were more excited over his toys. They had so much fun remembering playing with each thing, and of course everything was new to Ethan. It's so fun to see him drive his little car around on the floor, or bounce to the music on the guitar. This little 1 year old is so easily pleased.

It was a fun and entertaining day and this little birthday boy was very tuckered out. Sweet dreams little man.
Happy Birthday Ethan!
